Niantic has released a new update for Ingress on the Android platform. Version 1.131.2 is supposed to have a bugfix for login issues. On a personal note, I was experiencing the bug on my way home from a farm tonight and installed the update. I still have the same login issues. To fix it, go to Settings -> APPS -> Ingress -> Storage -> Clear Data -> Delete (Don’t confuse this with clearing cache. They are two totally different things)
Open Ingress. Then Login to your account. If you get the Communication Error message still, just click on retry and it should log you in.
I don’t know if the bugfix didn’t work, or if because I was currently having the issue, I needed to still clear out data one last time. I will report back on the next episode on whether it happens again or not.
